This morning, as I was reading, a verse kinda "jumped" off the page to me. Has that ever happened to you? Words you have read before, but this time spoke to you in bold way?
I was reading through Romans 6, when I came to these verses:
"But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that from of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness."
Romans 6:17-18
I LOVE the word obedient, I use it a lot with my kiddos... :) you moms out there can relate, we desire and demand obedience from our children...but when you turn that command towards us, as the mommy, well, it may be a bit harder to enjoy...that is why these verses spoke to me, we are instructed to be obedient from the HEART, to the form of teaching that we are COMMITTED to, that being the WORD of God, the fact that we are FREED from sin, we now have a new "master" God Himself! Therefore, we are now slaves of RIGHTEOUSNESS, wow, amazing!
I am so thankful that I CAN be obedient from my heart, because of Christ within me...I often explain to my girls that the only way they can do anything good is with the Spirit of God living through us, my prayer is that they will be saved and therefore have the Spirit within them, so that they can live out the fruits of the Spirit...I pray with them for understanding and for salvation...I share with them that the way I, mommy, can know I am not living as God wants and choosing what is right is because of the Spirit within me...they often have a hard time understanding that I do wrong, so I try to show them examples, I want them to understand that mommy is SO not perfect, but because of God, I can do right things, a "slave of righteousness"...slowly I think that they are understanding the NEED for the Spirit of God in their lives...and that the Bible is our guidebook, our source of ALL wisdom...
So, the Lord has challenged my heart to obey Him, choose to be a slave unto righteouness...to live it clearly in front of my children and to stay COMMITTED to the teaching from His Word. Obedience is a wonderful command and I praise God that through HIM, I can obey His Word from my heart, FREED from the hold of sin because of Christ!
